UNIVERSITY OF
ESTABLISHED 1874 · NEW YORK CITY
"Rooted in Tradition. Rising Together. Run with the Herd."
Campus Life
Life at Alderidge stretches well beyond lectures and laboratories. Students compete for the Stags, organize around shared interests, fill performance halls, publish campus news, broadcast over WALD 93.1, and build traditions that become part of the Ridge.
Some traditions are official. Others are simply habits that survived long enough to become Alderidge institutions: late nights in Parker, rivalry games at Morrow Field, winter performances at Studio 7, crowded shuttle platforms after evening classes, and each new class of Greenhorns learning their way around.
Brown, gold, and white take over North Fields whenever the Stags compete at home.
Alderidge's traditional nickname for first-year students has survived generations of campus life.
Organizations, performances, athletics, student media, and gathering spaces keep Alderidge moving after classes end.
Getting Around
Alderidge is walkable, but nobody is pretending every hill deserves to be climbed between classes. The Ridge Shuttle Loop connects the university's major districts throughout the day, giving students an easy way to move between residences, academic buildings, student spaces, and North Fields.
Students usually call the main Lower Green stop the Tram Station, regardless of how many times university signage insists otherwise.
The loop is especially useful for Southgate residents, evening classes, bad weather, and anyone reconsidering the climb back to Old Ridge.
Run with the Herd
From rivalry nights at Morrow Field to packed stands inside McHughes, Alderidge athletics are part competition, part tradition, and part campus ritual. The Stags compete across North Fields and indoor venues throughout the Ridge, supported by generations of students in brown, gold, and white.
North Fields
Home of the Stampede & Whitehorns
Opened 1928 · North Fields' oldest competition ground
Lacrosse sits at the center of Alderidge Athletics, and the Whitehorns remain the university's most successful and heavily supported program. They are perennial national contenders with one of the strongest game-day followings on the Ridge.
Their defining rivalry is with the Cardell Mustangs, another old-blood private university with a long athletic tradition.
The Stampede are known for hard contact, aggressive defense, and a relentless pace that makes Morrow Field difficult territory for visiting teams.
Their final home fixture is known as the Deluge, a tradition born from a memorable late-season match played through severe rain and wind.
Gold Guard is Alderidge's primary outdoor cheer program, supporting the Whitehorns and Stampede at major games and university events.
Before major Whitehorn matches, Gold Guard joins students along the Morrow Walk as the team makes its way through North Fields.
